The most common commercial PV coating consists of a ~100 nm single-layer antireflection coating (ARC) of nano-porous silica deposited onto the solar glass cover via sol–gel roller coating followed by a high-temperature sintering and tempering process.
The antireflection (AR) coating applied to solar glass in photovoltaic modules has remained largely unchanged for decades, despite its well-documented lack of durability. Traditional porous structured single-layer AR coatings last as little as 5 years in the field.
Therefore, the reflection of incident rays by cells or mirrors results in increased energy loss; thus, a transparent anti-reflection coating is required to prevent these losses. Wind's velocity affects the PV module's efficiency both favourably and unfavourably.
