It results in better use of the transmission evacuation system, which, in turn, provides a lower overall plant cost compared to standalone wind and solar plants of the same generating capacity.
To provide a stable and continuous electricity supply, energy storage is integrated into the power system. By means of technology development, the combination of solar energy, wind power and energy storage solutions are under development .
Accelerating energy transition towards renewables is central to net-zero emissions. However, building a global power system dominated by solar and wind energy presents immense challenges. Here, we demonstrate the potential of a globally interconnected solar-wind system to meet future electricity demands.
